before we get to the actual meat of the game, i will say now: i am playing this on a 3DS. so there is no screen record nor rewing option. this game also doesn't have a backlog, so i won't recognize the setup for a joke until it's too late to get a pic of both the setup and the punchline, and etc. i'm not sure how i'll handle this... we'll see how things go

i expected the main guy (blue, yorihisa) to be the rough type, but quiet to contrast with orange guy (tenma)'s loud type, but he speaks very very politely? like, i think he's some type of servant? woah

and the green guy (yasuaki, but like 2.5 guys have green hair. green hair enjoyers rise up)'s voice is much deeper than i expected. his deep voice, the mysterious mark on his face, and his haughty way of talking are all giving Villain... but in the art i saw before, he had such a cute face? he looked serious, yes, but his eyes were kinda big so i didn't think his voice would come out like that

chapter 1 done. i'm a nice guy, so i will retell the events that have transpired:

3 friends, akane (can be renamed), tenma, and shimon find an old well. the lid opens on its own, and they end up transported to a time far from their own. they have no clue what's going on, but everyone is calling akane miko-dono/priestess of the dragon god, and calling the other two as well as each other the Hachiyou, 8 people who must defend the priestess, as she will save the world from the clutches of the evil oni. the little princess Fujihime is also here, hiiii. she serves as my girlfriend (platonic) in this situation full of men... and also as the #loredropper; she answers most of my questions about what's going on.

tenma insists on going back, like he has something very very important he has to do back in his own time. turns out, 2 years ago, before he met akane or shimon, his little sister went missing. and her necklace that matches his own has turned up here? so she might be here. so he stays. even so, just because he has to look for his sister here doesn't mean me and shimon have to stay.

except, oops, yes we do. because the leader of the oni Akram covets the power of the Dragon God. many such cases! for that, he needs the miko, and so asks akane to join his side. she says no because he hurts people. and he says okay fine, i'll just destroy everything around you by one one until you come to my side. you know, normal guy stuff. also, he is the one keeping my way home closed! if i only helped him, he would open the portal right away.

not happening. he is evil. so instead, to get back home, we have to defeat him and save this world. our first step towards that is collecting all the talismans, which correspond to the Four Gods which govern each direction. Seiryuu to the east, Byakko to the west, Suzaku to the south, and Genbu in the north. fushigi yuugi fans already know what's up. (now that i think about it, fushigi yuugi was already a thing and crazy popular by the time they released this too... lmao ruby party were watching fy and inuyasha and taking notes. which is good and how inspiration works btw)

to collect the talismans (talismen...), i pick 2 hachiyou who represent the same god and do their little storyline over a few days, fight a boss, gain the talisman, and then on to the next duo. i chose genbu first because eisen is so cute and yasuaki interests me. *alucard voice* this interests me

I didn't get many pictures, but Yasuaki is constantly... not exactly being mean, but the way he talks is very blunt. It hurts sensitive people. Sensitive people like Eisen. And Eisen's sprites are soooo sad omg he's so kicked puppy to me... BE NICE TO HIM *psychic blast*

this game goes day-by-day... today is march 2nd. i know it's not february 3rd because this game is supposed to emphasize the aesthetics of spring and summer. early february is pretty decidedly winter, i feel. i'm going to add the date to the liveblog from now on. (you can also safely assume the first day was march 1st, but i won't add the dates from before)

the chapters are also shorter than i thought, but i won't be changing the name of the link to the liveblog until i think i've written enough here and it's time to add a new webpage

yasuaki was being super mean to eisen today. so mean that eisen had to leave the conversation. i learned so many new ways to call someone useless in japanese ^_^ right when i was about to start hating him, eisen came back like Actually, i'm okay now! called him a goblin and stuff, which yasuaki didn't deny, so i guess it's true?

but anyways, that eisen wasn't real. akane (the protag!) figured that wasn't the real eisen because being so mean and lashing out like that is so unlike him. it was an oni masquerading as eisen. and as it turns out, the yasuaki who called eisen a useless shitty monk wasn't the real yasuaki either. we kicked the oni's ass real bad and he had to go back to akram (big daddy oni, final boss, etc.).

when we got back home i offered to clear up the misunderstanding, but yasuaki said don't bother. what is his deal. why would he want eisen to think he's a huge bully instead of a minor bully
