But if i play further and use my improved japanese, maybe he’ll begin to really rub off on me. or someone else, even if i think the rest of them are all mid! ….. i hope there’s some ange and reina events like in duet :’)

angelique is awesome for many reasons, but a pretty decent sized chunk of a reason was that many of the guys had long hair, so i had quite the array to choose from. here? its just Felix….. no diversity… no freedom of choice for me…..

i regret not having a website and liveblogging when i started angelique. my bad for starting with the very last/newest game. i feel i must explain some things

one, this game (and others, ex. the first game) takes place on the Flying City. the flying city is a piece of land that floats in space near the main planet, and on the flying city we overlook a small planet that we take care of for the exam.

for the exam, me and my rival (in this game my rival is reina, who is my icon for this liveblog) ask the 9 guardians to send sacrea (power) to our half of the continent. we can only ask for so much help per day, and if the balance isn't right and the people aren't happy the planet won't develop further. whoever fully develops their part of the continent first becomes the new queen of the universe! yay!! also if theres no queen we all die. also we got isekai'd here and lowkey don't know if we'll see our family and friends on earth again (#spoilers and digression into the lore of the first games if i explain that point further, i think)

to ask for their help, we have to visit their office. it's encouraged that we get along with our coworkers - i mean, the guardians, but we can't enter a romantic relationship - we all have our duties that must be attended to. if you decide to confess your undying love to one of the guardians, you have to drop out the exam and lose the chance to be queen. and then the game ends. do you get it? it kind of resembles a company, and if i'm an aspiring career woman i can't get married - being a mom and stuff would interrupt my plans. if you want to pursue love, you drop out the exam, like how a newlywed may quit irl.

i dont think married couples really do that in the U.S., but this series was invented in mid-90s japan, so you know how it is. (they may not do that in 2021 japan either, so i wonder if the game portrays picking a guy over the job differently.)

and that was day zero! basically, normal office worker ange gets whisked away into a strange world and meets another girl from her area, reina, who was also taken here, as well as the butler and 9 guardians… well, 8 of them. one doesnt show up to the queen candidate-guardian meet. so yea, ange and reina were brought here to complete an exam where they direct the guardians’ powers and raise their part of a continent on a planet they watch over. a sneak peek into what the guardians are up to while ange and reina get their tutorial reveal the water guardian Kanata is holeing himself up in his room, upset likely because he became a guardian without being eased into it by the previous guardian. he just. was forced into the job. no adjustment period. other guardians talk about how they do what they have to do or what they must do, noah specifically doesnt give a fuck abt the exam and wouldnt give a fuck if we both failed it… rancid vibes over in the guardians’ quarters LOL. theyre not having the best time.

and in real life, the clock strikes midnight. a new day for both me AND ange! wow!

why does everyone in this game insist on me going honorificless for them… makes the bird universe seem so uptight LOL. did people complain? or did they just want to cultivate a super friendly atmosphere here (i wouldnt say the bird universe felt unfriendly… i mean, just avoid jules and clavicle and everyone else is chill.)

(and ive never called anyone from that universe with an honorific nor an english translation of it because i, personally, did not consent to participate in the flying city's power play. and no one should get used to it since theyre all about to submit to me in <5 months. but it adds to the atmosphere!)

i think it might be a feminist thing actually, like they didnt want to make women who seem to be enemies. even though rosalia and rachel end up being super mega close to limoges and colette… But in their games where they’re your rival you only really see that if you choose to, i guess. here you cant not see reina as a nice person cuz shes nice even if youre ignoring her (i presume. i would not know from experience as i talk to her at every opportunity)
